D. Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph 48mm, white gold diamond set case
Feb 08, 2013,09:15 AM
Needless to say, the 2013 AP novelty that most caught me by surprise was the diamond encrusted 48mm Offshore Chronograph. Brand enthusiasts will immediately recognize this as the "T3" case platform - 48mm with the crown and hinged pusher guards.
I must admit, while I have never considered owning a diamond set watch, I am amazed at the level of detail that goes into this sort of work. Leave it to AP to really master this process.
A massive white gold caseback covers the back of the watch and the AP selfwinding manufacture Calibre 3126/3840 (29.92mm, 7.16mm thick, 59 jewels, 365 parts, 21,600 vibrations/h, power reserve >55h).
The bezel on this watch is really a sight to behold. Polished white gold has such an amazing luster in person. Each white gold bezel screw has just a little bit of trim around it in the same shape, creating a crisp border for the brilliant-cut diamonds. AP uses IF diamond quality (the highest clarity of diamond).
"You are soft Jarno Trulli... you lack discipline. You are mine now! Time to turn the mush into muscles!" Just imagine how much more imposing Mr. Kimble would have been if he were wearing this full set 48mm white gold Offshore in class
Ok, the truth is your humble AP Moderator really enjoyed wearing this watch! It is huge, it is heavy, it is audacious... but it looked so darn good. While I might not be the prototypical client AP had in mind with this special watch, there are no doubt folks who will really enjoy this timepiece.
With the strap and white gold tang buckle (diamond encrusted, of course) it really is comfortable.
The watch is also available on a white gold, full set diamond bracelet (I was unable to see this sample during my visit).
