Chuck

Thanks for asking!!! Here's my biased opinion, not so much information wink
The Salmon dial appeared in three different iterations of the Royal Oak: Not sure which came first chronologically, but
I know that it came out on the 36mm version in the late 80s early 90s. this was the version of the Royal Oak that had a leather strap with it.
Then in the 1992 Jubilee series of AP RO Jumbos (20 years of Royal Oaks!) they came out with 1000 pieces, of these 1000 pieces there were two dial versions, some with the regular anthracite dial
and  some (albeit to a more limited degree) version with this salmon or champagne colored dial. There are also other versions that came out (in Solid Gold, and platinum) Yet, only AP knows how many salmon dials were produced. I figure probably 200-300 floating around, if that many!
Also later on there is a chrono RO in white gold that has a different colored salmon dial fitted.
During the early 90s you could send in your AP RO into AP for a servicing and have your choice of dial placed on the watch. There's a few instances where people with the
AP 5402 have done this and had their watches fitted with the salmon dial. For example, the previous owner of my 5402 C series had a 15002 white dial fitted on it in 1994 when the watch was serviced (that's why I have the AP at 6 and the white dials now smile. Hence... when I got the chance to acquire a dial, I jumped on it! wink I especialy love the back of the 5402 case. it's slight curvature is just great... does it for me!

But why is this color so special? well ...you have to see it in person! ... there are some fabulous pictures here by 'OragneDial' of his old salmon dial Jubilee.. these are really wonderful pictures and you'll get an appreciation for it.
It just gives the watch a completely different character. Of course the champagne colored dials of the 80s are very 'yuppy' but in my opinion (since I'm not a fan of black colored dialed watches! arhg!!) the salmon color is extremely versatile, dressy, sport, and just great to look at....

this is all of course in my opinion!!

you should go into an AD and see if you can spot one of these AP ROC in white gold to see the effect of a salmon dial on a white steel- its magical!!

Hope this helps!!

So... When in Rome...? One thing one notices while in Rome is the color of buildings.. Terra cotta... reds, ochres... or shades of pink to salmon color. I had the 'salmon' bug for a long time now... and after sounding out some interest to friends and some...

I think I recognize these places...

How well you capture and describe it. Definitely a whole new look for the Royal Oak. I would love a re-issue of some salmon dials by AP. Could not be happier for you! Oh, and welcome back to the Masthead my Friend :-)

Thanks !!!

Yes... its very very nice. The play of color on the dial, and luminosity is terrific. I guess its just a bit below the nice silver/white dial on the prev. generation 15202... which I really like!! the salmon/champagne color is so late 80s IMO but I love i...

My friend, huge congratulations! This dial is sublime, and to say all...

In my opinion, just the next best thing after the 5402. This dial gives another dimension to the Watch. More " cool ", less sporty. More chic. That is a Watch I would love to have in my collection! BRAVO! Best, Nicolas.

Muchas gracias!
