Oh My, Quite Attractive
Jan 23, 2014,04:40 AM
Hi Thomas,
I couldn't discern the extent of the blue accenting until you posted the wrist shot, but then it absolutely popped. This is a phenomenal piece, and easily one of the highlights of SIHH for me. In fact, I think that color palette in those proportions may be one of the finest iterations of the 44mm case to date. Not only does it look fantastic, but the legibility is just as sharp thanks to the strong contrast.
In keeping with the automotive subtext of this thread, white with thin blue stripes is the traditional international American racing color code (like Italian Red, British Racing Green, German Silver). High performance machinery, indeed, AP...
Since AP is family owned and possesses such a comprehensive catalog of diverse products, one need not worry about reading the tea leaves too deeply at these trade shows; they're just catching a breather in their product cycle, and no "rebranding" campaigns are in the works. In the meantime the historical models offer almost infinite variety for study, discovery, and collection, and the new models satisfy a range of tastes.
Huge splashes can wait, and with AP, you know they will come given time. After all, we just enjoyed a lengthy discussion of the ROO Survivor on this forum- just in case anyone has come to doubt AP's penchant for audacity when they choose to express that inclination.
Cheers,
Tim

Audemars Piguet SIHH 2014 some quick thoughts
By: ThomasM : January 22nd, 2014-20:00
In the past decade and a half, collectors and enthusiasts have come to expect blockbuster after blockbuster, year after year, each outdoing the previous and raising the bar. Though at first the initial feeling after viewing the 2014 collection is one of a...
That is a stunner indeed.

If RM is doing it with their Bubba Watson, AP should too. I'd love to try this puppy on. Thanks for sharing Thomas.

Sometimes being the best does not require making the big splash or impact.

I expected this sort of year from AP. We are still in the phase of honing the core collections, strengthening the foundations. When you pull that white Porsche up to a stop light and everyone gazes over, do you have to floor it to show how fast it is? No,...
Works for me.

I am a huge fan of the basics. I still think the AP Jumbo is the perfect watch. Best, JerryW
Thoughts on the AP SIHH 2014 pieces

Thanks Thomas for the live wrist shots of the new ROO ceramic. I never thought of a white colored ROO, but have to say that from your initial pics the color combo really works and looks great with the blue subdials and blue rehaut. Regards, ED-209
