Go Offshore: Audemars Piguet's official launch of the new 42mm Royal Oak Offshores

Apr 11, 2014,12:13 PM

On Monday, April 7th, the manufacture Audemars Piguet officially launched their new 42mm Royal Oak Offshore Collection in Miami, Florida.  The 6 new watches made their initial debut in January at SIHH 2014 in Geneva.  Now, merely a few months later, the watches are being delivered to Audemars Piguet Boutiques and authorized dealers worldwide.

The location for this event was the Perez Art Museum Miami.  We entered on the main level and were greeted with custom signage.

Upon taking the elevators to the building's top floor, we entered a room that displayed a wonderful history of the Royal Oak Offshore.

A handful of lighted cases displayed some of the most recognizable Royal Oak Offshores to date.

Many of the legendary models were also included on a Royal Oak Offshore history printed on the walls.

After touring the first room, we proceeded to the wonderful rooftop terrace.  The views were amazing.

Guest relaxed and mingled for a while.  Audemars Piguet Brand Ambassador LeBron James was in attendance.  It must have felt a bit like going to work for LBJ, as his home arena was only a few hundred yards away.

I did speak briefly with LeBron at the event.  While I had previously met him at the launch of his personal AP Offshore Chronograph last September, it was easier to chat this time as the true stars of the evening were the new 42mm Offshores.  LeBron was there as a guest an obvious AP enthusiast, yet graciously shared his time with everyone who asked.  I must say, he is a humble individual and very pleasant.

Soon after it became dark, Audemars Piguet North American Vice President of Sales & Marketing Fred Martel delivered a brief speech on the history of the Royal Oak Offshore.

And as we have become accustomed to with new AP product launches, a great new video began on the big screen...

Culminating with all 6 of the new watches...

Excited AP fans crowded the lighted cases which had been covered until the completion of the video.  All of the new watches were on display.  Unfortunately, due to the high demand and crowding around the cases, I never found an opportunity to sneak some photos.  Fear not though, I made a special visit to the AP Bal Harbour Boutique the next day and snapped a few hundred photos of the new collection (and some other pieces).  I will soon roll out some fresh reports on these watches.

Many thanks to AP for providing PuristSPro with great access and information at this special event.

But in the end opted for my favorite Offshore, the RB2. I felt it best for an Offshore launch party after all. Howard Parr from TZ is a very good friend of mine and he managed the following shot and very kindly sent it to me. A pair of Kings... LeBron and...

What is he wearing?

Is it the Royal Oak skeleton in platinum? Really jealous of that picture Michael. One of the many thing I like about AP is that AP has this kind of ambassadors people that have fought for personal improvement and goes with AP´s philosophy. (i.e. Michael S...

I did not get a great look at it but it did not appear to be the stainless steel 15305. I agree with your opinion about the AP Ambassadors. And I have even posted here about LeBron in the past. When he first switched teams and went to Miami, I thought it ...

RB2 was the perfect choice for the event, Michael...

This night really was all about the newest Offshores and how we have arrived here from our start in 1993. AP did a magnificent job as always.

Thanks Michael for the report!
