Ask AP Volume 1: the final list of questions

Oct 21, 2014,13:20 PM

Hello Friends, the following list of questions has been submitted to Audemars Piguet.  Please remember, these questions have been derived directly from your input, which can be reviewed by clicking the following link:

1. We have all heard rumors the past few years that Audemars Piguet would bring forth a new timepiece based upon the discontinued Starwheel complication.  Is a new Starwheel type project watch in the pipeline?  Can you offer insight as to which AP case type would house this new watch?

2. The Audemars Piguet escapement has been used somewhat sparingly and so far has been reserved for exceptional watches.  Does AP plan to expand the use of the AP escapement, and possibly offer it in models with lower price points than we have previously seen it used in?

3. The Royal Oak Offshore Diver has been offered in several different materials and dial colors since its debut a few years ago.  Has thought been given to offering this watch - or perhaps another AP watch - in a left handed version?  Can we expect this model to offer more color options with the dials?

4.  The Royal Oak reference 15202 has been widely popular among AP enthusiasts, with many PuristS deciding to own this watch in their collections.  Naturally, it is a timepiece we frequently discuss, and we want to know if this reference might be offered in additional materials or dial colors not currently available.  Can you estimate how many samples of this reference are produced each year in steel and gold?

5. On the topic of steel, AP has always seemed to achieve an amazing level of finish and luster with this material.  What grade of steel is used for a typical Royal Oak or Royal Oak Offshore case and bezel?

6. What is the current status of the expansion of the AP Service Center in Clearwater, Florida?  Has Audemars Piguet ever thought about offering service plans with or in addition to the purchase of a watch?

7. Specific to the Equation of Time Complication, has AP considered adding a feature that would allow the user to adjust the sunrise / sunset times during daylight savings?

8. Will we see any developments along the lines of an AP E-Boutique in the future to help facilitate sales?

9.  Are there any plans to introduce an integrated chronograph movement into the Royal Oak Offshore collection?  Could such a movement feature a peripheral rotor?

10. Has AP considered offering a rapid change strap system to the Royal Oak Offshore collection?  Regarding metal bracelets for both the Royal Oak and Royal Oak Offshore collections, is the addition of a micro adjustment something that might be considered to allow the user to fine tune the fit?

As the answers to the questions filter in, I will post them.  Remember that AP has offered to help us with this unique question session and some of the answers will take time to corral as we work around various schedules and events.

Sapphire caseback question?

 By: HasanR : October 25th, 2014-02:38
Hi Michael, In the original thread another member and myself asked about the possibility of upgrading the caseback of the 42mm Offshores to a sapphire caseback. This is something that I'm sure would be extremely popular and I am really desperate to do. (I...

I did my best to condense and organize the questions. I will see if I can get a separate answer for you. I do not think AP will fit an open back to an existing model for a variety of reasons. Obviously, AP does recognize the interest as it now offers them...

Thanks

Thanks Michael. Really appreciate that. If it's a no go, I may have to sell my existing Offshore and DSSD to fund a later model.

Thanks Michael! [nt]
