Not their original customer?????

Apr 11, 2013,23:32 PM

Nautilus,

Thanks for your comments... Firstly let me start by saying I do agree new things break and that's why I turned in the watch to AP to get it checked out... My only grouse was that it was gonna take 10 weeks to get it back which IMHO was not justified given the age of the watch... I have now learnt that this is normal so have accepted this and am waiting to get it back..

I agree with Michael and Anthony that AP is 'possibly' not responsible cause I cannot be 100% sure of how the previous guy used or abused the watch, although you can be sure looking from the pictures that the appearance atleast is pristine.

As for your comment about me not being the "original customer" for AP and hence AP 'supposedly' doing me a favour by taking it in for a free service..... There is a huge market for pre-owned watches and if luxury watch brands did not wish to entertain warranties being transferred to the next owner I'm sure they would have done something about this years ago....... There are many genuine and passionate watch lovers (myself included) who sometimes feel the need to wear something new and have to sell what they have to fund their new found desire......There is a Collector's market on this forum too.... The new watch market exists in tandem with the pre-owned market without which sales of new watches would surely be affected...

Seems we promote criticism as long as its positive but any negative feedback is unwelcome......

Extremely disappointed with my AP ROO....

 By: abnerc15 : April 9th, 2013-03:02
Had just purchased the AP ROO 44mm in FC and really enjoyed wearing it until recently when I noticed that the power reserve was not performing as it was meant to. After wearing the watch for the entire day it still would not hold charge even until the nex...

It happens with all brands even it should not happan

 By: dr.kol : April 9th, 2013-03:09
So take it easy - it does not mean that AP would not be a great watch. However, 10 weeks sound really stupid. It was faster to make a full service to my PP Perpetual. I had recently a small issue with my PP 5167 and they promised in the Brand Salon that t...

Keep the faith

Abnerc15, I completely agree that this should not happen in the first place - so definitely disappointing when buying a new watch, especially an AP! I have had some great service experience with the River Valley AP team, so hopefully this gets better for ...

Sorry to hear of the difficulty Abner

 By: MichaelC : April 9th, 2013-06:02
I know a lot of thought went into selecting this watch, and I know you got the right model. Here in the US we are usually quoted about the same timeframe for service. I do understand for you, with this being a new watch, that is not easy to accept. Rest a...

Thanks guys

 By: abnerc15 : April 9th, 2013-06:41
Thanks guys. I actually do not have that big an issue with the power reserve not living up to expectation or rather as 'promised'. But this was until they told me it would take 10 weeks to rectify... This makes me then wonder why this issue should exist i...

same problem

 By: iliantow : April 9th, 2013-07:39
Hi, I have exact same problem with my roo, still under waranty and its already 2,5 months at the sgp authorized service center with still no news. If i got it back and same problem or new problem arise, definitely will sell it and find some thing else bet...

This reminds me...

 By: Eternal : April 9th, 2013-07:50
I had a friend who was wearing his automatic Panerai and didn't know that he could wind up the watch manually using the crown, and he was complaining that the watch couldn't wind up enough power reserve just by wearing it and that it was a hassle to wind ...

IMO

 By: Spellbound : April 9th, 2013-09:11
IMO if the watch they sold you was not functioning properly, rather than fix a broken watch, they should give you a new watch, or else give you a loner until the watch is fixed. It is not alot of money for them, but alot of money for you and me.

Winnding is not the issue

 By: abnerc15 : April 9th, 2013-12:48
Hi Eternal, I wind my watch daily before putting it on cause like I said its dead each morning.... I have even wound it again at noon when I found it has stopped on my wrist.... I have had an AP Panda before this which has the same 60 hour movement and I ...

That sucks...

 By: Eternal : April 10th, 2013-05:08
Sorry to hear that happening to a relatively new watch . Do you notice any problems with the accuracy of the watch? My RO seems to gain about close to 5 minutes a day

Your watch is probably magnetized if it's gaining 5 mins a day

 By: AnthonyTsai : April 11th, 2013-17:10
Be sure to keep watches away from any powerful magnetic fields such as magnets because they will screw up your watch! - AT

5 minutes is quite much.Take it to a service.

 By: bulentvural93 : April 12th, 2013-04:53
Hi, As i know every mechanical watch gains or maybe 30 seconds per 5 minutes is much i think. yours...

Exactly what I would expect

 By: nautilus : April 12th, 2013-16:00
From the typical Panerai owner. Unfortunately.

I agree that it should not happened and how disappointed you are...

 By: berly : April 9th, 2013-15:59
But as with all mechanical watches, no matter how good the QC are, things are bound to happened. Otherwise the warranty would not be there in the first place. I had my share of experience with my AP GP too. Got it for the first day, notice that the hour a...

I had the silimar problem with my AP ROO as well...

 By: Victor Wong : April 9th, 2013-23:47
Hi, I bought my AP ROO (5 years ago) and went to the service centre in Hong Kong after 2 days of wearing it, it stopped and eventually they replaced the movement (at no cost to me) and sent it back to me after 3 months something, very sad but it happened....

Your expectation was totally unreasonable

 By: Tony-GB : April 10th, 2013-14:04
How are they supposed to thoroughly test the watch & return it to you within a week...? Sounds like AP are doing their usual high customer service plan. If after checking for over two months & it being returned to you it still wasn't right, fair e...

No it wasn't!!! Your reply is

 By: abnerc15 : April 10th, 2013-21:32
The watch is supposed to be delivered after going through QC. the movement can be tested for 2, 4 or even 10 months for all I care, but once passed and put for sale this should not happen immediately after...... If the power reserve is that bad in just 3 ...

I always wonder, in cases like this, does AP extend their warranty since its no fault of yours that the watch is gone for a long time?

I want to add one comment about Abner's watch

 By: MichaelC : April 11th, 2013-06:17
In speaking with Abner privately, he did tell me he bought this watch second hand. I am not making any excuse for AP here, but I am merely pointing out that when you buy a used watch, you simply never know its full history. Perhaps the original owner did ...

Lets get this straight.....

 By: nautilus : April 11th, 2013-15:28
You bought the watch second hand, after enjoying it for a while you begin to suspect that it doesn't function 100% and so you return it to AP - the people that you didn't buy it from in the first place! Presumably so that you could save money. AP confirm ...

Not their original customer?????

Abner, you need to accept the fact that sometimes new things break

 By: AnthonyTsai : April 11th, 2013-17:08
Even cars right when you drive them off the dealer lot, they experience some type of problem after a few days, a week, or couple months. This is what happens with mechanical machines. Stuff breaks. It happens all the time in any industry. To get the watch...

Diver also give problems...

 By: konamoto813 : April 11th, 2013-19:49
Recently I face down my Diver for a night, my watch stopped ! I have been wearing less than a week.

No good to hear such things about AP.

 By: bulentvural93 : April 12th, 2013-04:46
Hi, I would also be disappointed if ı were the most annoying thing is the watch would be away for 10 't hesitate to demand your rights as you won't be able to wear it on. regards..

In the same boat

I have a similar story to share. I bought a new ROO FC from an AD in Paris when I was there for a vacation in was the watch I've been eyeing for some time, especially encouraged from some of the wrist shots posted in the forum. Somehow, I didnt get to se...

Not on an AP ...

AP service

 By: Winstonplh : April 17th, 2013-17:29
Other than my issue with the long downtime, the service rendered during the two times I've been at the AP svc centre in Singapore had been fantastic - one to buy the GP strap and another to send in my watch. No queues, little waiting time, great customer ...
