I dont like the dial!

Jan 29, 2010,03:19 AM

I have one of the first ewc and this new dial imho ruins the watch making it look cheap and decreases legibility. That kind of dial i have seen on many cheap watches. The other small changes i think are welcome.

And the strap is great i have to get one for my ewc.

Anyway the ewc is a great watch with lots of that strong character that comes with a panerai watch. An extreme sportive watch without being over the top and overdesigned like a zenith defy extreme or the new ap roo grand prix.

I still remember when i bought my ewc. I was on one of my visits to my AD to plan my next purchase and then i saw it and i completely lost all sense of direction, did not sleep well at night and had to buy it on the next day. All of my other watches buys were planned and reflected upon. I had seen the photos and the specs of it and only thought "it is ok... i guess" but seeing it in the metal it swept me off my feet.

Extrem World Compressor Lovers, I have something for you...

First released in 2005, this powerful model received this year some cosmetic changes. Here is a pic of what we now have to call " Extrem World Compressor first generation ": The strong points remain the same: A Bullet proof ( or almost ) World Time Chrono...

Better than older versions. The dial is very nice, and the subdial is awsome. This message has been edited by foullis on 2010-01-28 13:16:45

After 5 years, it was indeed time to modernize it

Which doesn't mean that the first generation is to throw with the Baby's water...( Correct, in English ? ) As you said, the owners of the forst generation will still be happy with their EWC, while others may go on the new version. To me, the really import...

close, mon frere!

throw out the baby with the bath water! Not to worry, my foreign language skills are limited, much more so than yours, I'm sure. To be sure, I think the original is the more well-rounded watch, the new ones are more more sportive and fill that role nicely...

Thanks, Peace Frog, for the correction and

For your elaborated answer! Best, Bro! Nicolas

Outstanding pictures Nico...

you really captured the dial to perfection.....personally a little too futuristic for me but stunning none the less. Yours, Andy.

A matter of light..The dial has really to be seen in the flesh.

 By: amanico : January 29th, 2010-14:16
But if you're not keen on carbon fiber dials, this one may not be for you... Best, my friend. Nicolas

I like it Nicolas

You know, my birthday is coming up, and I hear you still don't have a gift??? Another lovely set of photos too! -- Cheers, -- Richard.

That's a great idea for a gift!

 By: amanico : January 29th, 2010-14:23
I love the idea of getting a watch for a birthday! Now, you know what to do. Send an email to JLC... Best, Nicolas

No, no Nicolas...

 By: =RWK= : January 29th, 2010-14:45
It is indeed a great idea, and you need to visit the JLC AD and pick-up one for me. Then, I can return the favor when your birthday arrives. -- Richard.

EWC 2.0

 By: Casey : January 28th, 2010-19:00
One of the things I find interesting is that the new EWC Ti/SS is now a Limited Edition of 500, where the first generation was not. Visually I think the font used on the hour counter sub dial on the second generation EWC really cleans up the dial, making ...

Hey Casey

 By: amanico : January 29th, 2010-14:27
Well I for one am not too keen about the Limited Edition phenomenon... I rather think JLC should re think it, and only release a LE for special watches, and not watches which will know further developments. I'm pretty sure we'll see other EWCs in the futu...

They look amazing!

Especially the RG version. Thanks for the great pics, Nicolas.

I perceive something like a beginning of a Love Affair in your words, Davo. Am I wrong? :)

This really meets my taste for a high end sports watch

 By: stromer : January 29th, 2010-00:50
First I have to admit that I was not a fan of the EWC so far. And I even know exactly why this was so: The main dial, i.e. the ring defined by the minute hand was much too small for me. Surrounded by the 24h ring, the cities ring and the broad bezel it lo...

We're on the same wave, Martin

 By: amanico : January 29th, 2010-14:33
The slimmer bezel does it all, and the new subdials too... To be clear, the EWC still has this system for a quick change of the strap. As you, I would love to see it on ALL JLC sports watches. Best, and thanks for your answer. Nicolas

The SS/Ti version...

 By: dxboon : January 29th, 2010-01:31
...is very sporty and looks sharp. I tend not to like these types of carbon fiber looking dials, but it is certainly a fresh take on the EWC. Thanks for sharing the great photos, Nicolas! Cheers, Daos

The Ti version is brighter while the RG is curiously

 By: amanico : January 29th, 2010-14:37
More understated and has a smoother dial, indeed. The Ti is definitely sportier. As for the Extrem Lab II, it is a strong watch which will have its fans and its critics. Which is cool, IMO, as it will change from the " consensus " on other Classic watches...

I dont like the dial!

And the story behind your EWC is really cool. The first EWC was indeed a strong looking watch, this new version too. As you said it perfectly, to be seen in the flesh AND under different light conditions, too, as Light does a lot on this watch, on the per...

Simon, you have that very special Boutique EWC

 By: respo : January 29th, 2010-13:45
with the orange replacing the red, no? Yes, I would stick with that one, too. Best, respo

Hi respo.......

 By: sclamb : January 30th, 2010-04:55
Yes I do indeed have the orange Paris boutique edition. Probably the watch I wear the most and still keeps time to around +1 sec a day after three years. I love it Simon

I know, I know

My EWC is my most frequent companion and remains equally accurate even when I leave the chronon on for extended periods of time. The ther thing is the pwoer reserve on mine i s much closer to the originally stated 72 hours rather then the revised 65 hours...

Well....

 By: MiniCooper : January 30th, 2010-01:36
first of all thanks for the presentation..... I do like this newer version better... the dial is smother and more retro (subdial) as you pointed out.... It is slimmer.... the size is 46.5 right?.... I would like to see it in metal and test it on my wrist....

46, 3 mm, if I'm not wrong, PP

 By: amanico : January 30th, 2010-03:07
Best, my friend. Nicolas

Stunning EWCs to me!

 By: Mr.Gatsby : January 30th, 2010-02:30
Nico, haven't seen any of them in the metal as of now, but I would think - judging from the stock photos and the ones you took - that the rose gold variant would be a better looking watch with a bit more contrast on the rose gold casing and the dark grey ...

Well, on the RG, the dial is more brown than grey

 By: amanico : January 30th, 2010-03:05
But I'm pretty sure we'll see other variations and Combos... Best, my friend. Nicolas

Re: new EWC

 By: val : January 30th, 2010-08:42
My humble two cents, the new design strikes me as somewhat disjointed and doesn’t fit with my tastes (the new subdials being an exception to this comment), but I applaud JLC for the continued pursuit of innovation. Besides, I am consumed by the NS Automat...

It will be indeed difficult to love ALL the new releases, this year, Val

 By: amanico : January 30th, 2010-09:27
As JLC played on so different grounds, from the Classic to the Modern, not to say concept watch passing by some revisited models. Each of us will have his own " champions "... Thanks for your input, my friend. Best, Nicolas

Would love to see it on a navy strap....

 By: watchme : January 30th, 2010-12:11
or some shade of blue to match the accents. Then it would be perfect with navy suits OR jeans. -Dean

Great idea, Dean!

 By: amanico : January 30th, 2010-13:59
It would give it an interesting Bad Boy Look! Love that, and I didn't think about that. Best, Nicolas

Like the subdials, love the strap, don't know about the Texalium and the thinner bezel, I kind of like the balance of my old EWC. Like everything though need to see it in the flesh. Thanks for the great report Nico.
