New ROO QEII Cup 2014

By: Mark in Paris : March 27th, 2014-03:55
In order to celebrate AP's collaboration with the Honk Kong Jockey Club for the Queen Elizabeth II Cup, AP has launched a 150 pieces nice little edition of the ROO. It has a 42 mm Tantalum case with RG bezel and links. I'm not a fan of straps with RO/ROO'...

Absolutely gorgeous!!!!

But a matching bracelet would complete it.

Yes, I thought at first sight that the color combination was really working good here. Thanks for your input Tony ;)

A novel idea, but...

 By: orangedial : March 27th, 2014-05:48
it's also a funny idea to use a diver watch to commemorate a horse racing event. And leather strap for a diver watch? Nice touch, and out of the box! Maybe this time AP is aspired by seahorses instead? Anyhow, this piece is stunning in my eye :)

If that is the case...

then what do you say about the Offshore "Safari", what does being Offshore have to do with hunting on the Savanna, regardless the QE2 "Diver" with tantalum case is beautiful. S

Not quite a similar comparison...

 By: orangedial : March 28th, 2014-08:34
But at least we can agree that the QE2 "Diver" is a stunning creation :) Cheers!

We can agree to disagree...

 By: SALMANPK : March 28th, 2014-16:31
but I would still like to know why its not a relevant comparison? Are you saying that Offshore marine life, boating, yachting, power boat racing, diving are compatible with hunting for big game on the Savannas of Africa? :-) HAGWE, S

"Safari" does not necessarily mean "hunting".

 By: MichaelC : March 28th, 2014-19:11
One can go on a Safari to Africa and observe animals without hunting them. And I am quite certain when AP used the name Safari for this particular watch, they did not wish to conjure up the idea of hunting animals. Maybe just a cultural difference Sal - h...

Thanks Michael for this thoughtful response...

and it has nailed the point I would like to express. I understand "Offshore" as a line of AP collection of large, sporty and avant-garde Royal Oak watches, and names like "Safari", "Volcano", "Grand Prix", etc are nicknames to the watches often associated...

Its always interesting to hear other points of view...

thanks for sharing them :-) S

Thanks for posting this information Mark.

The watch is gorgeous! I love it. And I do understand Wayne's comments about its relationship to the event, but in time, all that will be remembered is this rendition of the Diver is pure AWESOME.

Nicest

Diver variant so far IMHO.

I think I may agree :) [nt]

You welcome

When I saw the article I really thought the color combination was looking great. As we were talking about Tantalum lately, it was a nice choice to add it to the collection! Cheers Michael, Mark

That is the big excitement for me... tantalum!

I love the material. I also love how AP uses it very sparingly. Yet they don't forget about it over the years. Very special!

Gorgeous

Having owned a AP in tantalum with the rose gold bezel, I will say that these 2 metals really work well together in the flesh. This should be even nicer in person than in the pictures if I had to guess

Yes, the combo si looking beautifully on the pictures

By: Mark in Paris : March 27th, 2014-07:29
it's a real stunner. Cheers, Mark

The tantalum rose gold combo is quite appealing, I must confess.

Not bad, not bad at all. Best, Nicolas

Often used with black PVD or black ceramic with RG

but this time, with Tantalum, it is even more subtile.

I generally don't care for...

limited edition, but this is off the hook, fantastic, I want one for sure! Jeff

Despite the fact that I find this watch redundant for many reasons ,this combo is a killer

 By: moc : March 27th, 2014-14:56
Well, not a fan of ROO,not a fan of LE ROO,I agree with the incoherence of a diver for a jockey club, that logo at the back……hmmmmm BUT,dam its sexy! I love this combo sooooo much, tantalum and rg ,yummy! A wet dream? a new 15202 with this combo…….I will sel...

Hmmm yes a 15202 such as this one would suit to my wrist too

Maybe one day... It doesn't seem to be that impossible. Great suggestion Mo. Cheers, Mark ...

The best looking..

QE2 I've seen so far. Usually, they are nothing to get excited about but this one could be interesting. I saw some pics. of it last month and I will go see it next week, time permitting. :) cheers fernando

I thought I'm immune to two tone

 By: swjoseph : March 31st, 2014-03:49
But seeing it in metal totally changed my mind! Come and go with many ROO and nothing really trigger an impulse anymore but this one is just different. Joseph

Stunning ...

Absolutely nice one.

Would this value go up like it did in for other limited series?

 By: dol : April 8th, 2014-09:09
We have not had any significant value merit in limited editions from AP lately. As a mad AP fan myself, do you see this piece price soaring like it did for T3, Montoya, End of Days, Ginza, Barich, etc?
