What would you do? Perpetual Skeleton bezel question

 By: SteveH : September 18th, 2011-11:00
No secret to anyone who knows me, but I have been looking for a RO Skeleton Perpetual for quite a long time. The right piece just never came up at the right time. I have finally made a deal to buy a very rare version that before a few months ago I did not...

Stunning piece...

never knew this existed either....if you like it just keep it as is for now then when you've scratched it and are bored with the polish look then get it refinished at a later date. Personally I'd keep it as it is. Andy.

A lovely piece.

I think that I would prefer the watch with the brushed finish. Best regards, George

Very simple, Steve.

Keep it original, as the polished bezel is part of the specificity of this watch. If you're disturbed by this detail, sell it and go for another version of this lovely perpetual RO. But you shouldn't modify the integrity of this RO, IMO. Best, Nicolas.

Why not..

Hi, outstanding piece. I generally never change an original configuration on a watch, I've tried and always regretted. However if AP is ready to brush this bezel, then why not. I also think a skeleton watch deserves something more metalic and brushed. Che...

Agreed

Go for it, I say. IMHO, the polished bezel just doesn't look right on that watch.

Exactly what Nicolas said.

Vlad is wise, so best to listen to him. ;-) I am almost always in favor of keeping a watch as it was originally delivered, with the possible exception of a strap change now and then. If one does not like it, then one should get another watch. I think this...

I vote on side of keeping original

Beyond the stock design and keeping it original for horological "correctness", I humbly opine that the polished bezel draws the attention to the skeleton dial, not the bezel itself. It's like a highly decorated photo frame, it complements the painting. Ei...

Congrats

I would keep it as original as possible. The polished bezel look nice and make it unique!

Congrats on the very nice piece!

I'd definitely vote to keep the original, as it's unique to this model... But then again it's hard to tell from just the pictures the effect of the bezel's finish... C

Great find Steve.

I would start with the original factory polished bezel, you can always have it brushed if you decide it is to much shine. Why do we like the same watches? Best, JerryW

great minds... [nt]

Hi Steve, BIG Congrats! I'm so happy for you that you got your AP RO perpetual skeleton. It's funny that we just talked about it recently. I was in a similar situation when I was looking at my second RO perpetual calendar. I was deciding between the all S...

Congrats!

That is an awesome RO, and I'd have to say its a tough choice, so sympathize, on the one hand the old school Royal Oak look is something I love however the brushed finish would look fantastic as well and bring it up to date with the current pieces......I ...

Wow!!

Great looking watch. I like the watch as is and agree as others have noted, that you can get it brushed in the future! Also love the ROO tourbillon. I haven't seen any outside of the AP Boutique!

Thanks, tourbillon is not mine unfortunately

This is an unusual situation

Congratulations on the new watch, Steve. Whatever you decide to do, it's rather special. This would normally be a 'no brainer' for me: keep it as original as possible. But the factory is offering to alter it for you to give you a piece unique. It's like m...

I'd definitely keep it original.

It looks stupendous by the way. CONGRATS AND ENJOY!!!

Just got it. Actually love the bezel and links in person!

The shininess is much more subtle than in pictures. Just makes it look slightly more special. LOVE IT!...

Wow!!!

I'd maintain its intended design...
